Working with over one hundred British playwrights over the last five years, DryWrite is a New Writing theatre company that challenges writers to actively engage audiences with argument and action. The multi-award winning Soho Theatre is one of London’s most vibrant venues for new theatre, comedy and cabaret; and a home to talented emerging and established writers. Touring its productions to venues ranging from black box studios to large-scale opera houses in the UK and abroad, it aims to develop innovative new collaborations and present ground-breaking work on an international scale.
Written (and originally performed by) Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge, ‘Fleabag’ is a sharp and fearless new play, posing rarely asked questions about 21st Century women. Telling the story of a young woman dealing with the death of her best friend, the break-up of her relationship and the crumbling of her business, it presents the voice of a highly-sexualised female struggling to understand her place in a modern capitalist city. Through storytelling and physical comedy which transcends national borders, the play reveals hidden secrets about feminism, sexuality and identity in the contemporary world.
